This is a  minimalistic flappy bird game with a simple cubist visual style. The game was developed as I am learning to make games with the Unity game engine.

Dev Log

I am currently learning to develop games using Unity Engine and I developed a minimalistic flappy bird game, which I called Blocky Tap Game, to practice building a simple game with Unity Engine.

I am happy with what I achieved here. Only two outstanding issues which require more understanding of unity;

  • There is an inconsistency Input, such that the game can play differently in different environments.
  • I tried to add a screen bounce similar to screen shake, but the effect was inconsistent and jarring.

The "To Do" list:

There are still areas of the game I would like to improve:

  • A high score record. [done]
  • Each difficulty level to have more consistency. [done]
  • The option to mute sound effects. [done]
  • Add some parallax scrolling to make the game look better visually better but keep in with the abstract blocky style. [done]

In my journey of learning game development, I welcome positive and constructive feedback.

Update 3

I have been learning about animation in Unity Engine. So I have improved the background scenery by adding some small animation to the background scenery.

The first thing is, Good Going! This game is cool, definitely, there's a lot of things to polish and make this game super fun but yeah, a good start. I assume you don't want to stick with this game around and update it along, instead, you should be making something new and super solid. All the best for your future projects!

Thanks for your feedback. I intend just to do one update to add a high score, sound and other minor polish, but then leave it there and move on. I have lots of stuff to learn and practice in build games.

Yeah that's great!
